“We Have Created a False Horizon” is about global warming... sort of... At my school, from the top floor of the library one can see (when facing north) almost all of the Los Angeles basin and on a good day can see the beautiful mountain ranges (more on that in a bit) and facing the south side one can see the Pacific Ocean and even Catalina Island. What inspired this song was when I looked out the window one day and the pollution was so incredibly thick that it looked like the tall mountains were wiped off the face of the Earth (thus, “We Have Created a False Horizon”). It should be noted however that the shape of the LA basin basically keeps in any sort of cloud or fog. This has been noted even since before the Industrial Revolution, so to see that there is a very thick layer of fog is not out of the ordinary.
